Medical Marijuana and Migraines

Migraines are type of headache that approximately 23 million people suffer from and the medications used to treat them have less than desirable results in some cases. Serotonergic pathways are believed to be an integral part of the migraine and in treating it. Migraines are a genetic disorder and they can occur from a closed head injury. In numerous studies the THC in medical marijuana has proven to inhibit serotonin release from the platelets and inhibits synaptosomale uptake.

The medical marijuana compound has been proven to be effective in the relief of migraine headaches, without the side effects associated with the commonly prescribed medications. The medical marijuana anti-inflammatory properties also help in the treatment of migraine headaches and is thought by some researchers to be the ideal drug for the treatment of these severe headaches that can cause pain, nausea and debilitation of normal activity.
