Medical Marijuana and Neuralgia |
Neuralgia is a term used for nerve injuries that is characterized as sharp pain, convulsive tics and other symptoms. Spinal cord injuries are one of the conditions that is included in neuralgia and other crippling diseases.Medical marijuana has been studied in connection with neuralgia pain and shown in numerous studies to be effective in reducing pain due to the THC and other compounds that act as an anti-inflammatory.
Researchers believe that medical marijuana can work for some patients suffering from neuralgia better than the common opiates and painkillers that are used and have a high addiction rate and over time requires a higher dosage of the medication to be taken to have the same effect. Marijuana showed in studies that it affects receptors in the brain differently than the current medications prescribed and could be an effective long term treatment for the treatment of neuralgia pain.
