Medical marijuana has been the treatment used in some studies with participants or laboratory mice to collect data on the effect that marijuana can have on tics. Tics caused by are jerk type of movements in the neck muscles that cause the head to be jerked to at least one side. Tics can be caused by several medical conditions and due to stress related conditions. The conventional medications that are used for the treatment of tics have side effects associated with them.
Medical marijuana when used for treatment of tics in patients with turrets syndrome has proven in studies to be an effective treatment, without any side effects. In one study that was conducted, the data shows that medical marijuana was able to decrease tics by up to fifty percent after the use of medical marijuana. When participants stopped the use of medical marijuana the tic returned to the former state within twelve hours. |
